This research took both quantitative and qualitative approach,including a self-report questionnaire and follow-up one on one interviews.Six intact classes of 223 university non-English major freshmen participated in the questionnaire study and 14 of them participated in the interview study.The quantitative analysis of the questionnaire was conducted through descriptive statistics and independent-sample t-test in order to investigate the students' general expectations and to determine the differences between male and female students' expectations on teacher immediacy.
