The EAN/UCC (EAN: European Article Numbering Association, UCC: Uniform Code Council) system is a set of bar code standards which enables an efficient management. By assigning the unique code numbers to their member companies and their associated locations, products, shipping orders, containers, etc., and provides critical information standards for logistics management. As compareing to EAN/UCC bar code system, Electronic Product Code (EPC) provides unique number used to identify each individual item through its life cycle in supply chain. RFID can identify an object (ex: pallet, carton, item) by means of reading its corresponding Electronic Product Code (EPC) coded on RFID tag. All related data can be collected by building RFID readers and RFID middleware located at the suitable place. This thesis makes a brief introduction to EAN/UCC bar code and EPC system and their transforing rules, and introduces the basic operational principles of RFID system. We survey some typical RFID application models for data collection in distribution center based on respects of logistics moving unit and operational activities. Concepts of hierachical data structure is used for data storing for order and logistics data collection. Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN) can be transmitted to the related customers in supply chain via Internet, thus can achieve the power of Efficient Customer Response (ECR) and to strengthen the strategic capability.
