Specifically, we studied the effects of the top cover on the particle segregation in a 2-D vertically-vibrated granular matter. We have established a vertically-vibrated system simulating particle segregation under different circumstances with/without top cover. Generally, the rising velocity of the traced particle with the density different from the surrounding particles changes significantly when the density ratio varies slightly. Top cover influences significantly on the rising of the traced particle, of which the tendency can be approximated by using a quadratic equation.
