Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 藝術研究所 === 96 === The subject of the study is based on the picturebook Mom, It’s Sunny Outside! , created by Su-Hsia Hsu, a middle-aged female representative writer for writers of Taiwan picturebooks. This study analyzes and discusses the story regarding the Mother-Daughter Relationship with massive Taiwan country scenery paintings. The study discovered that the creational content, both in the landscape paintings and the Mother-Daughter Relationship, presents the maternal strength of the female subject. In the picturebook, the Taiwan country scenery paintings buckle Su-Hsia Hsu’s childhood background of farming in the Miaoli village, convert “The water buffalo”, “the egret on the back of the cattle”, “the red roofing tiles” and so on, which are Su-Hsia Hsu’s childhood growth memory, into symbols of memory of mother’s body in contemporary country paintings. Simultaneously the Taiwan country scenery is as well depicted and deemed to be a feminine space, like mother’s body or home, which contains and breeds a myriad of things that unceasingly summoning viewers’ return to the joyful dream and fantasy of Taiwan native female parents. In the book the development of the Mother-Daughter Relationship presents the mother as the leading initiative strength as the story marches forward, and presents the mother's principal role of the pictures and her master control, by the composition the creator has made over the picture arrangement, letting viewers sense the mother’s existence in the pictures no matter whether the mother is present. Apart from the mother’s master control over the pictures, the composition also displays that the mother and the daughter are reciprocally the main subjects in the pictures. Through the meaning of the daughter’s play which symbolizes the linking between the mother and daughter, it unfolds distinguishing peculiarities of the link between the main subjects and an alternation between the characters to be a principal role of the paintings in a female creation. The relationship between the nature and the mother and daughter lies in the fusion and the alternation of the principal roles in the pictures among the nature and characters in the book. By the composition of feminine nature, the book makes the relationship between the nature and the feminine return to the ancient times when the nature and the feminine formed an alliance naturally revealing the highest maternal strength in the mother goddess times. This thesis presents the strength of female subject in “Mom, It’s Sunny Outside!” , and expects to establish its status of Women’s Studies in Taiwan child picturebook research.
