The role of “New Taiwanese Women” appears in the new stage. Women used to be seen as subordinate to men under the influence of old patriarchal capitalism. When equal rights for men and women arose in Taiwan, the “old patriarchy” weakened. At the same time, the expansion of capitalism enables women to be more independent. Hence, the social economic status of new Taiwan women rises. Gender-power relationship under the old patriarchal capitalism transforms and it has been continuously challenged by new Taiwan women. However, some outdated gender role expectation still exists and traditional marriage market does catch up with the development path of new Taiwan women. Therefore, the new Taiwan women would rather keep single and their number increases. Tung, Chuan-Chuan 董娟娟 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 139 zh-TW
