The aim of this study was to explore the people’s satisfaction with the GPS system in handling the operation of traffic signal coordination, and the study also discusses the differences of satisfaction upon the operation of traffic signal coordination, other additional functions, and overall operation of the GPS system between peoples from different backgrounds.
The study has adopted the survey method, and was focused on the people’s opinions on the traffic coordination service system used in the Changhua County. The survey questionnaires used for this study were edited based on the references and other related information collected, and they were the study tools that we used for collecting information. The survey used for this study has thereafter undergone evaluation by the experts that were invited to participate in the research, and the survey has become the preliminary survey to be used for the study. Then, in mid April of 2008, 132 civilians were gathered from the 8 police precinct jurisdictions to take part in the preliminary survey for the purpose of analyzing and improving its credibility. At last, the survey was modified by the professor, and then the completed questionnaires were distributed and put in practical use. The survey has used Likert-type scale. And the survey’s content was divided into four parts, namely, satisfaction with the traffic signal coordination system, satisfaction with the operation of the additional function and the operation of the overall function, the survey subject’s personal information, and other related items. The statistic and the analysis analyzed were first based on the characteristic analysis of the sample before beginning analysis on the current situation. Then, the analysis was made to analyze the differences of the people’s satisfaction degree upon the service of the signal coordination function, subset signal coordination function, and the overall signal functions. The result from the quantification statistics shows that people are showing high appreciation with the operation of GPS traffic signal coordination service system. Therefore, the study suggests that we maintain the use of the traffic signal coordination operation system, which is the most suitable system at this time, as a reply for the people’s expectations, and that the survey can also become a reference for the government to use in planning the improvements on traffic management in the future.
