As compared with the empirical formula, the phsically-based model is more generality. The physically-based model with the assumption of nearly saturated soil has been widely used for regional shallow landslides modeling, but it could not exactly examine the shallow landslides in steep slope with unsaturated soils. The objective of this paper is to study the use of the saturated and unsaturated rainfall-triggered shallow landslides model for practical application. In this study, the differences between the nearly saturated model and the saturated and unsaturated model are first examined. The application study on modeling shallow landslides in Shihmen reservior watershed using the saturated and unsaturated model is then conducted.
