Accordingly the military undergraduates need to participate in the combined recruit training. Combined recruit training caused different effects to trainee. At present, few of researches focus on personal hardiness , stress perception and psychosomatic reaction among military undergraduates receiving combined recruit training in Taiwan. The purpose of this study is to explore the personal hardiness, stress perception and psychosomatic reaction among military undergraduates receiving combined recruit training. Prospective and longitudinal research design were used in this research. The research sample completion were the from trainees in the combined recruit training on week one, week eight, and the sixth month after of the training from 1st July, 2007 to 31st March, 2008. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data. The questionnaires included demographic characteristics, personal hardiness scale, stress perception scale and psychosomatic symptoms scale. The SPSS for Windows 15.0 was used for data analysis. The statistical techniques included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and general estimation are examined. P-value less than .05 was considered to be the statistically significant level. The analyzed results included(1)The related factors of personal hardiness, stress perception and psychosomatic reaction were the property of campus life, gender, marriage status of trainee’s parents, mother’s occupation, understanding and acceptability of military academy life and reason for joining military academy;(2)The higher personal hardiness was, the stronger the ability to stress perception would be;(3)In week eight of the training, it was found that trainees’ personal hardiness was improved, the ability to stress perception was better. Six months after training course, the personal hardiness was lower. The ability to stress perception in leading style, personal factors, and regulation requirements except environmental facilities was improved and the progress on psychosomatic reaction was more obvious than ever. According to the results of this study, we understand the effects and related factors of personal hardiness, stress perception and psychosomatic reaction among military undergraduates receiving combined recruit training. It is not only to select military undergraduates, in addition to academic considerations, but also will personal hardiness into one of reference for the levy election. At the same time, military academies and mental health units will also advance understanding of the students physical, psychological and social needs so as to help students to solve their problems when they try to adapt themselves to military academy life.
