The marital life cycle examined included pre-marital stage, newly-married stage, the birth of the first child stage and the grown-up children stage. The findings are as follow: I. With the passage of different family life cycle, three interviewees went through three dimensions of adjustment processs. They are (1) self-adjustment, such as the adjustment of mate-selection, balance between work and family, the motherhood, the expectation on children, mental health, personal value, role idenfication within the family-in-law group as well as emotional adjustment. (2) couple adjustment, such as conflict between couples and the expection of fatherhood. (3) three-generation-interaction adjustment, such as differences of life habits, relationship and interaction among families-in-laws, the relationship between mothers-in-law and daughters-in law and the adjustment of the interaction with original families. II. The factors which influenced how the interviewees adjusted themselves in their marital life included: the life experiences with their original families, life beliefs; personalities; expectations for themselves or others; self-awareness and reflection; the perception of husbands’ attitudes, the perceptions of conflict, the impact of pregnancy, peer support and sharing and the influence of religious groups. III. The adjustment strategies of interviewees included: make the best use of familial and external resources, self-reflection, communication, avoidance, catharsis as well as try their best to change. These are quite different from traditional women. IV. Although three interviewees had different premises and issues about marriage, they all enadevor to build up new life model by way of better interactions between sisters-in-law, between spouses and among the whole family. In the long run, they expect to be the hosts of themselves living a more mentally independent life. Finally, based on the above findings, the suggestions for both marital adjustment and future related researches are presented. 施香如 何秀珠 學位論文 ; thesis 127 zh-TW
