This research choose four elementary schools in Tao-yuan county, and pick 555 students among 5 or 6 grades students from two to three classes in random sampling. Research tool adopt a self-edit “representation toward the preliminary concept of buoyancy” questionnaire, and test content includes the differences between shape, hollow and solid, volume, and weight. The followings are the main discovery of this research: 1.As a whole, higher grades elementary school students have low comprehension on knowing the preliminary concept of buoyancy. 2.Higher grades elementary school students always have myths when judging an object float or sink. 3.Higher grades elementary school students’ concept of buoyancy on volume and weight have apparent differences between sex. 4.Higher grades elementary school students’ concept of buoyancy on shape and weight have apparent differences between grades. 5.Higher grades elementary school students’ concept of buoyancy on shape and hollow-solid have apparent differences between school districts.
