Summary: | 碩士 === 南華大學 === 教育社會學研究所 === 96 === The purposes of this study are to understand a vocational night high school’s students who are labeled as the deviant, they formed the counter-school culture in school discipline, and then to find the impression management and power operation relation in interaction between teachers and students.
First, based on labeling theory to explore the process that a vocational night high school’s students who are labeled as the deviant. It is apt to make people relate to the deviant in personal experience by the personal front which represented by night school’s students. But, are they really deviant? Under the social power difference relation, the night school’s students who have broken social rule it may be labeled as a deviant by label
course of regular definition, record a demerit, punishment, and broadcasting publicly etc. of the media. Usually, it have exaggerated that the deviant of the night school’s students in label, in fact, the night school’s students are different than deviant.
Secondly, students have agency, in the daily life of the school’s world, the night school’s students have one''s own culture atmospheres which form the counter-school
culture. Students are via all kinds of resistance to challenge the teacher having the right to define the deviation, make a power domain of teachers and students change. The person who has power defines the deviant, but does not have inevitable and all power.
Last, in term of discipline probe into students'' resistance. Although the way of the power operation in the school changed, but power has not disappeared. Under the school discipline, students’ resistance has reproduced the rule of the school. Moreover, the hidden curriculum in the school become study curriculum, because students can not resist. The hidden curriculum in the night school include:The discipline power that school uses on purpose,informal rules of student''s secondary group, the hidden curriculum that produced in the process of coaching is intentional or not intentional. After graduating, the discipline is
gone on in different discipline mechanisms, and the deviation and resisting is exactly a part of the social power effect. Under the discipline mechanism, students’ agency shows mainly: choose to break rules, challenge the authority and fight for power, negotiation with authoritative representatives, and choice the future life.
