Description
Summary:碩士 === 南華大學 === 美學與藝術管理研究所 === 96 === Nowadays people are trying every possible way to travel and do things faster, from which we see the emergence of a continuous trend to make application of speed and pursuit of speed. This phenomenon not only has changed our lifestyle significantly, but also becoming an interesting topic of discussion for artistic creativity. This study is to explore the notion of speed, which is the main idea underpinning the two exhibitions held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei in 2006, for which their titles are ‘SlowTech’ (meaning slow speed) and ‘Shoot’ (meaning fast speed) respectively. Chapter One, the fundamental relation between speed, time, and space are introduced, and then followed by a review of the association between futurism and speed. Finally the prevalent style of ‘slow motion’ is closely studied. Chapter Two, the widespread use of high speed especially in transportation and Internet access are supported by statistical data obtained from other publications, from which we understand the phenomenal need for high speed to satisfy their sensations. Also, the consumer behavior is an important impetus for achieving their goals of speed and efficiency in transactions. The process of their fast transformation is another topic in this paper. Chapter Three will discuss how the high-tech makes application of speed, and how speed delivered by technology products influences arts development. The interplay between speed, art, and life as demonstrated in the ‘SlowTech’ and ‘Shoot’ exhibitions are carefully examined. Finally we ponder on what kind of needs we have for fastness and slowness. Chapter Four, the aesthetics of speed is examined covering such notions as incidence and efficiency, casting aside the conventional comparison of fastness and slowness, but instead, the meaning of these two notions are defined in terms of relative speed. Also, our attitudes toward different classes of speed and their influences are discussed. An in-depth analysis to find out to what degree the scientific tools have played upon speed to influence arts, and then the relation between speed, technology, and media, and the use of speed for art performance are studied. Chapter Five, this study attempts to draw a conclusion on various topical discussions including the influence of speed on the elements of time and space, the demand for speed, their different aspects, the technology influence on arts and speed, and the interrelationship between arts and speed.
