Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立宜蘭大學 === 建築與永續規劃研究所碩士班 === 96 === Abstract The overflowing river water floods the land. The river supports the needs of the people and the waterside provides space for people to build their residences. Therefore, the Shih Liou Fen waterway and its waterside, which together comprised living space for the residents, became the base of development of the Lotong Area and is a witness to the history of its development. Moreover, the space along the Shih Liou Fen waterway has been impacted by urban planning and has played a different role in each period. The purpose of this study is to understand the background and present situation of space along the Shih Liou Fen waterway in order to obtain basic data regarding this space. Therefore, this study is beneficial with regard to the future planning of space along the Shih Liou Fen waterway. This study was carried out by conducting a literature review, interviewing elderly residents, and conducting a field investigation in order to clarify the transformation of space along the Shih Liou Fen waterway. In this study, the timeline was divided into five periods: the period of the Qing Dynasty before 1985, the period of the Japanese occupation in 1895–1945, the post-World War II period in 1945–1962, the period of the economy take off in 1964–1982, and the period of transformation after 1983 until now. The components of space along the Shih Liou Fen waterway in this study that were defined included two parts—the waterside space and the waterway space—to study the transformation of space in each part. The issues that were studied in the waterside space included urban planning, the open space of the waterside, and the cultivated land area. On the other hand, the study issues with regard to the waterway space included the shape of the waterway, the section of the waterway, and the function of the waterway. This study described the urban development of the Lotong Area and how the spaces along the Shih Liou Fen waterways were related to and influenced each other. Furthermore, this study found that the waterside space was strongly influenced by urban planning, and the resultant area decreased the open space of the waterside and changed the way in which the waterside space was used. On the other hand, this study also showed that the waterway space was influenced by the waterside space, which resulted in a change in the cross-section of the waterway and in changing the functions of the waterway from multiple to single. Finally, this study suggests three issues that should be considered in the future development of the space along the Shih Liou Fen waterways: the conservation of the cultural landscape, the need for closeness with nature, and the reservation of the open space of the waterside. Additionally, this study also suggests using the abundant resources of the culture and nature in this area to establish a Lotong Area river community museum.
