The results indicate that POE teaching strategy has positive influence on student’s perceptions of self-efficiency, performance goal, teacher support, student participation, exploration, work orientation, and cooperation. The results from the open-ended questionnaire indicate that students increase their interest to the class, their knowledge on ecology and their ability to design the experiment, and the contents are not so difficult for them. However, some students have negative feeling towards the POE teaching strategy such as it is not easy to apply the knowledge to daily life, some contents are not easy to understand, and the operating process for POE takes time. When compare the influence according to different achievement levels, the students with medium level achievement have the most positive change. The study indicates that using POE teaching strategy in the ecology unit have positive results on concept understanding, and the perceptions on the learning environment and students’ motivation on learning.
