This study employed questionnaire surveys and interviews. The research target was qualified social studies teachers who teach in public junior high schools in Kaohsiung area. A total of 357 copies of questionnaire were distributed to collect data. 316 valid questionnaires were returned representing a valid return rate of 88.5%. A rate of 87.4% of the returned questionnaires could be used. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 10.0. Finally, the semi-structured interviews were employed to understand the teachers’ opinions better and reduce possible error to the minimum. The conclusions of this study are as follows: a. The social studies teachers in junior high schools reach an upper-intermediate level of professional perception. According to the survey, the teachers’ attitudes are measured as being high. b. The social studies teachers in junior high schools reach an upper-intermediate level of teaching effectiveness. According to the survey, the teachers’ instructional preparation and design are perceived as being of a high standard. c. Significant differences in professional perception were found among the social studies teachers when years of experience, positions, or school locations were involved. d. Significant differences in teaching effectiveness were found among the social studies teachers when gender, teaching subjects, years of experience, or school locations were involved. e. The social studies teachers achieved different levels of professional perception and different levels of teaching effectiveness. The higher the level of professional perception they achieved, the higher level of teaching effectiveness they showed. f. A significant correlation was found between professional perception and teaching effectiveness of social studies teachers in junior high schools. g. The professional perception of social studies teachers could predict their perception of teaching effectiveness, especially regarding the aspect of “class management and student counseling ”. Finally, based on the conclusions mentioned above, this study proposes relevant suggestions to institutes of educational administration, colleges for teacher education, and the staff responsible for school curriculum planning and teaching. 黃文三 謝琇玲 學位論文 ; thesis 183 zh-TW
