Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 體育學系 === 96 === The Research of the Development of World Games — the World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung Abstract Kaohsiung, “Capital of the Sea; Sunshine City,” is the host city for the World Games 2009. This research takes a closer look at the World Games, its origination , development, and status-quo. The researcher uses history research methods, document analysis, and interview to collect and analyze data. The findings of this research study include: Since 1981, the World Games was held every four years with different sports. The number of sports appears to be getting bigger and bigger. However, up till now, no country has been able to hold all the sports at one time. The International World Games Association (IWGA), with 12 international sports associations to begin with, decided to hold the World Games regularly. The purpose was to attract people’s attention to non-Olympic sports and be aware of their importance. Now, it has 32 members and the IWGA has also become widely recognized. The World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung can be viewed in terms of the following four areas. (1) Sports and venues: Thirty-two sports will be held mostly in existing venues along with 2 newly built facilities which are the Kaohsiung Dome and the World Games Main Stadium. (2) Volunteers: Kaohsiung City Council has organized a volunteer team for the World Games 2009, inviting those who are interested in volunteering and participating in this extraordinary event. The group consists of four different kinds of volunteers: general volunteers, specialist volunteers, group volunteers, and oversea Taiwanese. (3) Promotion of sports in schools: In order to integrate the theme of World Games 2009 into Physical Education in schools, Kaohsiung Education Bureau has set up teaching and learning workshops, held competitions for teaching excellence, and encouraged schools to represent one of the participating countries in the World Games 2009. (4) Tourism: Along with the promotion of the World Games 2009, Kaohsiung city strives to introduce its arts, culture, and beautiful scenery to the world.
