Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 國語文學系國語文教學碩士班 === 96 === As a pioneer in children’s literature, Andersen’s fairy tales are the most important memories in people’s childhood. These valuable works have been translated into many languages and published in many countries around the world, and they have been attractive to children and adults that made Andersen win the reputation of “King of the fairy tales”. Considered as a model of the modern fantasy, Andersen is the first one who attempted to create his own fairy tales. Female characters of the stories, such as the princesses and the witches, deeply impress the readers most of the time. Andersen is good at handling psychology of children to create outstanding personalities and vivid characters and extend the imagination fairy tales. This thesis is divided into six sections. In Chapter I, introduction, which is composed of motivation, worth, research methodology, literature review as well as research limitation. In Chapter II, dissertator with fairy tales, Andersen’s background, and the development of Andersen’s fairy tales are introduced. In Chapter III, focuses on the presentations and symbols of civilian female characters. In Chapter IV, focuses on the presentations and symbols of noble female characters. In Chapter V, focuses on the presentations and symbols of magical female characters. Chapter VI, the conclusion and recommendations.
