Twelve plots of 20×20 m2 were surveyed along the elevation gradient from 1250 to 2350 m, and there were 124 species of trees, 126 species of tree seedlings and 149 species of herbs in this study, and 46 species of vines and 40 species of epiphytes in this area. Three vegetation zones were classified by TWINSPAN method. The first vegetation type was Cyclobalanopsis glauca - Syzygium formosanum type belonging to the subtropical forest from altitude 1250 to 1550 m. The second vegetation type was Castanopsis cuspidata - Michelia compressa type belong to warm forest from altitude 1650 to 2150 m. The third vegetation type was Tsuga chinensis var. formosana - Trochodendron aralioides type from altitude 2250 to 2350 m. The dominant species of tree seedlings were Glycosmis citrifolia, Symplocos formosan and Eurya loquaiana. The dominant species of vines were Tetrastigma bioritsense and Smilax arisanensis. It is easy to divide variations of community by the species composition of trees, tree seedlings and vines could be used to distinguished the vegetation.About the βdiversity, the similarity of trees and herbs resampled was 79.7% and 45.5% that showed high diversity of plants composition in Kuhanuosin Mountain. The average rate of transformation of 95% trees needed 678m along the elevation gradient and the average rate of transformation of 95% understory plants needed 778m along the elevation gradient.
