Fifty-nine second graders were assigned to two experimental groups (17 boys and 13 girls) and two control groups (17 boys and 12 girls). The experimental groups underwent 1 hour of initial swimming training twice a week for 12 weeks. All subjects were tested on balance, coordination, agility, reaction time, and power at pre- and post-learning. Data collected were shown by descriptive statistic and analyzed by one-way ANCOVA. The difference among the groups were compared and the significant level was set at α = .05. The findings were as follows: 1. The balance, coordination and agility of the experimental groups improved significantly. However, the difference on reaction time and power was not significance. 2. There was no significant difference between boys’ and girls’ experimental group on balance, coordination, agility, reaction time, and power. It revealed that swimming learning was effective and suitable for both boys and girls to improve motor capability. Shu-Ping Chen 陳樹屏 學位論文 ; thesis 70 zh-TW
