Some related studies were carried out using the scores obtained from the test of scientific metacognition. 882 sixth-graders from Tainan City, Tainan County, Kaohsiung City and Kaohsiung County composed of the subjects of this study. The main findings of this study were as follow: 1. The evidences showed that the criterion-related validity, content validity and construct validity of the scientific metacognition test and metacognition scale were good. 2. The coefficient alpha for the scientific metacognition test is .61 and for the metacognition scale is .893. 3. By using HLM, it was shown that the students’ metacognition scores differed significantly on parents’ SES, time of experiments, and reading efforts. 4. In terms of school location and size, it was found that students from Tainan City received the highest score on the test of metacognition, and students from small-size school tended to have lowest scores.
