碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 台灣文化研究所教學碩士班 === 96 === The anthurium from Neimen Township has gained popularity and a high opinion among all walks of life recently. Even the mass media find favor with it. Although the anthurium has been cultivated for only around ten years in Neimen, it has made great output value of a hundred million NT dollars and earned quite a little foreign exchange. Therefore, this research studies the development and background of the anthurium industry as well as the quality of the farmers’ management in Neimen in order to explicate this local culture. Besides, by categorizing and analyzing the statistical data collected from bibliography, in-depth interview, participation and observation, this research expects to present the feature of the anthurium industrial culture and its influence on the farmers’ lives. According to the efforts of the above, the conclusions are as follows: 1. Pig- farming was once a wide-spread sideline for farmers in Neimen. However, some pig farmers switched to anthurium planting due to the outbreak of the foot-and-mouth disease of the pigs which had smashed the pig-farming industry from 1995 to 1997. Thus the anthurium industry has risen and developed since then. 2. The anthurium in Neimen is produced and marketed by different groups with varied ideas and procedure. As a result, the quality of the farmers’ management is affected by the groups they belong to. Moreover, the group leader has a direct effect on the management of the group. 3. The anthurium industry has influenced the cultures of lives for both the farmers and local residents in various aspects in Neimen. On one hand, the anthurium farmers’ work and rest are changed, incomes are increased, social lives are getting intensive and the professional skills are improved. On the other hand, the anthurium industry creates more job opportunities for the local residents, provides instructional assistance during and after school for school children, combines with Song Jiang Battle Array to promote marketing, encourages the practice of flower arranging and adds variety in flowers for worshiping Buddha.
