This study was to investigate the inheritance and change of marriage convention in Jiading from the recovery of Taiwan so far. The marriage convention in Jiading basically must conform six procedures, “Na-Tsai”, “Wen-Ming”, “Na-Chi”, “Na-Cheng”, “Ching-Chi” and Chin-Ying”, to complete a wedding ceremony from the early recovery of Taiwan to the 1970s. We can find that these six procedures have converted to four, “Na-Tsai”, “Wen-Ming”, “Na-Cheng” and “Ching-Chi” after 1980s. Because of the socioeconomic development and many changes of the concept of marriage, the entire procedures of items have been gradually simplified and valued. Owing to the general education and the concept of scientific progress, the marriage taboo also has become reduced. Even if the marriage convention’s procedures, items and taboo are changed in Jiading, there are many cultural implications of marriage convention which people in Jiading respected, such as separation and transition, the combinative national image, the ancestor worship, heirs, descendants, and choosing a good day. Furthermore, the concept of happy fate which brings lovers together exists on marriage. The phenomenon of marriage convention which are changed in Jiading are attributed to five sections-the change of the meaning of the marriage legislation, the impact of economic development, the development of local industries, the impact of cultural transmission, and the change of the traditional concept of marriage. Confronted with the evolvement of marriage convention, modern people do not understand the meaning of the cultural marriage convention and just follow these procedures of marriage convention. The development of marriage convention will tend to simplify because of the amended law. However, we should make efforts in the future that how not to lose the sacred meaning of marriage.
