Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 幼兒與家庭教育學系碩士班 === 96 === ABSTRACT Through collecting personal narratives of 3 children of new immigrants, the purpose of this research is to study the content and the structure of new immigrants’ personal narratives. In order to understand the relationship between the narratives and the correlating life experiences, the researcher conducted a content and structural analysis of the narratives. The process of collecting narratives officially began on September 27th, 2007. When the researcher was able to identify the structural patterns within the narratives, the researcher decided the information was sufficient for the research at hand and ceased collecting narratives on May 12th, 2008. The basis of the speech evaluation and analysis employed by the researcher is from previous research by Gee and also what the researcher learned from Language Curriculum After the Integration of Kindergarten and Day Cares(Tsai et al.,2008). Through the life experiences of the narrators, their parents, and teachers, the researcher was able to understand the children’s experiences at home, in school and in their community. The following are the results: There are similarities within structure of narratives of children of new immigrants, including giving the summary then the details when describing an event and describing multiple events. Besides, Fa Yi-An will describe multiple events within a day. About pattern of narratives of children of new immigrants, Xiao-Dang’s pattern of narratives is brief, Fa Yi-An’s pattern of narratives are focusing on the experience of ‘play’, including experience and imagination, emphasizing on her own ability and naturally expressing her emotions while narrating and Lei Yi-En’ pattern of narratives is focusing on her brother and telling on his bad words and acts. To summarize from all these data, the researcher find out that possible factors that influence personal narratives of children of new immigrants include family backgrounds, personal characters, and parenting styles. At last, based on the findings and the limits of this research, the researcher has made some suggestions and point out the defects of this research.
