The subjects were chosen from the 970 members of the elder associations in Taitung region. The data collection was based on the structural questionnaires including self-perceived health status scale and health-promoting lifestyle scale. There were 528 effective questionnaires received which revealed the 55% of effective return rate. Results: The 78.6% of the elder had normal self-perceived health status. Among the demographic variables, age, marital status, living condition, educational level, economic sources, careers, body mass index and numbers of self-perceived chronic diseases showed significant variance in the self-perceived health status, while gender, races and numbers of chileren showed no significant variance. In their health-promoting lifestyles, the highest score was interpersonal relations and the lowest was health responsibility. Gender, numbers of chileren, living condition, educational level, economic sources, careers, body mass index and numbers of self-perceived chronic diseases showed significant variance in health-promoting lifestyles, while age, races and marital status showed no significant variance. Self-perceived health status were significantly positive correlated with the health-promoting lifestyles. The better self-perceived health status was, the better health-promoting lifestyles were. Exercise, numbers of self-perceived chronic diseases, health responsibility and nutrition were significant predictors and explained the 43.3% variance of the self-perceived health status.
