Summary:碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 教育學系(所) === 97 === The main purpose of this study is to investigate career development of two divorced female elementary school teachers through the eyes of a male researcher to understand and interpret the nature of women’s life. The qualitative research is used for this study by depth interview and data-collections to analyze the interviewees’ life experience through narrative approach of story-telling. The researcher is profoundly concerned about those following topics: 1. To understand the process of career development of the divorced female elementary school teachers. 2. To realize these factors which have some influences on career development of the divorced female elementary teachers. 3. To explore the two teachers’ difficulties for their family life and how do they deal with those difficulties. 4. To investigate the two teachers’ difficulties for their working life and how do they tackle them. 5. To discover the influences of divorce on the two female elementary school teachers. The conclusions are as follows: 1. The career development of the divorced female elementary teachers is a kind of process to deal with their difficulties as well as a process of diverse interaction. 2. For the family life: a. The family-of-origin’s and parents’ attitudes to nurture have some great influences on career development of these divorced female elementary school teachers. b. The positive self-concepts are important strength to facilitate these divorced female elementary school teachers to deal with those difficulties. c. Children are very important considerations for these divorced female elementary school teachers to decide if they want to devoice or not. 3. For the life of work: a. The social environmental factors affect these divorced female elementary school teachers’ career development. b. The ethos of working place has a great influence on the career planning of these divorced female elementary school teachers. c. Teaching job is the main support in these divorced female elementary school teachers’ career. 4. The social support benefits these divorced female elementary school teachers’ physical and mental adjustments. 5. Divorce is one choice for these divorced female elementary school teachers to re-build their own career. There are four implications according to those conclusions as following: 1. The government should emphasize how to promote the parenting education. 2. It is very important to protect those divorced female schoolteachers’ rights to work. 3. It is very significant to make sure that the gender equality is practicable in all campuses as well as the whole society. 4. The divorce is not necessary to mean a failure, but to take a turn and make a promotion.
