ERP integrates information from all departments; and based on these collected information, the management team proceeds to develop business strategies, recreate enterprise’s process flows, enhance efficiency of administrative procedures, and lower the operation costs. The medical industry is not unfamiliar to information technology; however, we must be cautious about whether this business model is suitable for the medical industry, as the medical industry is not just like any other enterprises. Other than providing the best operational practice, the system suppliers must first understand the special characteristic and operation model of medical institutions, and then provide suitable entry model and procedures for hospital, so to reduce the rate of error and lower the possible impact/harm to minimum. The following are the primary purposes of this study: To study procedures and methods for implementing ERP system to hospitals; to investigate problems and to find solutions during the process; to study the methods for implementing ERP system to medical institutes by using the systematic way, such as: 1. Implementation plan - to computerize the preparatory meeting. 2. Operation analysis – to analyze the current situation, to discuss the coding flow, and to integrate/coordinate in-between departments. 3. Plan solution proposals. 4. Set up solution proposals. 5. Preparations prior to going on-line. This study uses 「action research」 method. Based on the practical procedures of implementation from individual hospital cases, to verify and organize procedures and problems possibly encountered during the implementation stage. And the implementation experiences will be used as reference for other similar hospitals. The result of this study shows that the methodology of commerce introduction can also be applied to the medical industry, however, the primary focal point will be whether the suppliers have previous commerce introduction experiences with medical institutes. In addition, the key problem that might occur during the process of implementing ERP into medical organization is human factor, and these operational problems caused by human must be improved by multilateral communications beforehand. Lastly, the implementation of ERP system will benefit hospitals, from constantly enhancing the quality of operations to the development of organization; furthermore, it will increase hospitals’ competitiveness and to continuously develop in the fast and changing medical environment.
