Description
Summary:碩士 === 樹德科技大學 === 應用設計研究所 === 97 === The wind-lion, a renowned figurine in Jinmen, is seen in a wide variety of forms, tall or short, fat of slender, seated or reclined. The wind-lion varies from village to village, each with its own style. It’s the myth that triggers the study on reasons of the variation. In the research in question, the east side of Jinmen that takes the head wind is compared to the west side of the island that takes tail wind and the result does show why. At the same time, the study has led us to learn where the figurines in the two parts of the island differ or where they are alike. It is expected that, by means of the research in question, characteristics of the wind-lion in Jinmen, such as location, appearance, quantities and material could become more accessible. Thanks to a productive collection of relevant reference literature, field survey, gathering of materials and pictures and photographs, the study on the wind-lion in the villages of Jining, Jincheng City, Jinhu City and Jinsha City was completed without toil. The facts we learned from the research in question are: To assure that the wind-lion does safeguard the windy eastside of the island, they have made the figurine either crouching or reclining rather than standing as we have seen in other places and they are smaller than the tall ones we see in the Westside of the island. Most of these fine and delicate figurines are engraved out of stones and they counterparts on the Westside of the island are either engraved out of stones or half plastered. For the larger number of the wind-lion figurines in more spots on the eastside of the island drawing more believers, we have come to conclude that the populations on the east and the west half of the island even show different passion in their beliefs. The research in question is not only a document of updates of the wind-lions in the countries of Jinmen, but also a means to preserve images of the wind-lion in Jinmen with associated data in the countries of Jinmen, assuring that more people would learn what and how much the wind-lion in Jinmen means in its history and culture, of which the evil-avoidance is the backbone of the local religions. Lacking further studies on the making and location of the figurine in other areas, we will keep on gathering more data for follow-up researches.
