This study was aimed to investigate the effects of case-management on psychiatric symptom, social function, care giver burden, regular outpatient clinic follow-up, medication compliance and re-adimission rate. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design at a teaching hospital in I-Lan from September, 2007 to March, 2008. Hospitalized patients diagnosed with schizophrenia were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups with sample of 31 and 30, respectively. Case management program was given to the experimental group patients for 3 months after they discharged from hospital. The experimental group patients were given a nursing handbook and at three home visits. The case manager used the case-management sheet to assess and evaluation the patient care. The outcome data were collected with three instruments including psychiatric questionnaire, social questionnaire, and caregiver burden questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using SPSS version 12.0. Result showed no significant difference in psychiatric symptom (p>.05); but significant differences in social function, care giver burden, regular outpatient clinic follow-up, drug compliance, and re-adimission, respectively (p<.05) between experimental and control groups.
