However, this isn’t a reliable and effective way because when receiving loads the rebar grids formed by longitudinal rebar and ties or stirrups would gradually become deformed due to the damage. Once the column element was severely damaged, the core concrete would squeeze the rebar and then fall out the rebar cage. It is believed that which is not only the cause to the degradation of strength and stiffness but also the reason of sensible pitching of hysteretic loops for reinforced concrete columns. In this experimental study, three bridge columns scaled down to 1:2.5 and five full-scale school columns are tested in NCREE. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic resistance of bridge and school columns using mechanical fastening in plastic hinge zones. The mechanical fastening includes: structural wire ropes and U-typed screws. Through cyclic loading tests, the differences in seismic behavior of the eight column specimens are investigated, and the performance is compared in terms of stiffness, strength, ductility and energy dissipation. 張順益 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 81 zh-TW
