Thirty-three sixth-graders in Class A of Meow elementary school in Tamsui Town were the participants in the study while action research was used as methodology. The first cycle of the curriculum design was executed in the first semester for 21 class periods, featuring musical background and history, theory, and body movements. The second cycle was held in the second semester for another 21 class periods, featuring musical performance as the core course. Research instruments included work sheets, checklists, observation, teaching journal, and semi-structured interview. Triangulation was used to compare data from various sources as validity and reliability of the study. Communication was held among researcher, advisors, participative teachers and observational teachers in order to adjust the curriculum and obtain professional growth. According to the results, the conclusions were made as followings: A. “Musicals” were an effective strategy to integrate “Arts and Humanities,” and motivate students’ learning and creativity. B. In order to integrate the “Arts and Humanities” through a musical production, teachers should analyze the learning objectives in competency index, moreover, combine performing arts, music, and visual arts based on the principal of curriculum design as well as the sequence of teaching musicals. C. Students were more attentive and efficient in learning after participate a musical. Recommendations were made according to the conclusion: A. For curriculum design: teachers in different disciplines should discuss curriculum together and pay attention to connections of each stage. In addition, the combination and application of learning should base on the subject in the curriculum. B. For teaching: teachers should grow their own professional skills and include practical learning contents in a pleasant atmosphere. C. For assessment: assessment should be held as observation in groups and different times, furthermore, portfolio assessment should be practical.
