This study in addition to its academic mission this study also undertakes research into cultural design. This study observes in depth the art and architecture of traditional Chinese leisure gardens with their more than three thousand years of history and art; combining literary traditions, architecture, craftwork and contemporary culture. The worldviews of the Chinese philosophers Laozi and Zhuangzi as well as the three great religious traditions of Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism (Taoism) are also represented. At the same time, on account of its favorable location and because Taiwan itself possesses the exquisite architecture and culture of traditional Chinese gardens, this study will especially focus on Taiwan’s ornamental gardens and take a closer look at the art and architecture they contain. Through in-depth field research, this study has chosen as its main focus Taiwan’s foremost ornamental leisure garden, the Lin Family Gardens. These gardens are a classic example of Min Nan style architecture: designed with the Chinese philosophical feel of ‘mountains and waters’, they possess a rich cultural and historical significance. This study has made use both of documents and extensive fieldwork in its research on the Lin Family Gardens. In the course of the study, expert researchers on Taiwan culture and designers were also invited to offer cultural analysis and design evaluation, to give a summing up on the cultural design patterns and methods. The unique forms and elements of the Chinese Yuanlin art garden developed by this study, corresponding to the significance of the cultural elements of the art of the ornamental garden, and adapts them for use in product design. The standards of these cultural elements will be a useful reference for later students of cultural design. Fu-Yuan Li 李福源 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 186 zh-TW |
