Description
Summary:碩士 === 大同大學 === 資訊工程學系(所) === 96 === There is no doubt that Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) is one of the most promising technology for the next generation broadband access network. It provided integrated services with the low-cost fiber infrastructure and shared transmission media between the CO equipment and users in FTTx application. According to our survey, there are many journal papers and researches discussing the dynamic bandwidth allocation mechanism for upstream traffic only in EPON, not much discussion for downstream traffic. IEEE 802.3ah defines the specification of EPON but it didn’t describe any mechanism for scheduling, bandwidth allocation and transmission. GATE and REPORT messages are critical factors in EPON bandwidth allocation mechanism whatever downstream or upstream. Unfortunately, they also impact the performance of EPON e.g. limited control-plane bandwidth issue. In this paper, we will describe a scheduling mechanism for the downstream traffic in EPON and highlight the problems. Furthermore, we would like to clarify those exist problem in downstream whether could be ignore as like previous researchers mention.
