At present fiber optic sensors in the field of civil engineering technology and extensive application of a more mature stage. the advantages of fiber optic transmit low loss, electromagnetic to interfere and multiplexing, etc. This study discuss the future development of a real-time, accurate optical sensor system to ensure that the water level changes in structure and can be applied to pavement and the industry upper level of liquid water level changes and monitoring purposes. This article explores the long-period fiber grating (LPG) sensors to change the refractive index of water, the optical spectrum analyze (OSA) read on the drift of the center wavelength changes in relations to achieve the effect of measurement. Experimental planning for different water content to the test ,The results showed that spray water and fully state its wavelength center will have a clear shift, LPG to the weak response from the humidity, but follow-up will be looking for more effective support of the sensing material support to apply sensors more responsive. the planning application LPG to measure changes in water level, experiment with the use of water pipes and rolling structure of sensing changes in water level , the use of LPG by the determination of measurement accuracy of the results was about 1cm. rolling in the structure of the test results showed that in 10 different set of water level, on the whole structure of the different level of the sensor have a good effect, this study also verified the current LPG measuring the water level measured up to 100 cm of capacity.
