As the germination of contemporary art in the 1980s of Taiwan, the changing art environment has enhanced both the quality and quantity of exhibition space, which not only increases the chance for new generation artists to cut a fine figure, but also influences upon their career development either directly or indirectly. Through the conception of Capital, Struggle and Power in Pierre Bourdieu’s theory and other related theories including Distribution System and Reward System, this research examines what the relation between the exhibition space of contemporary art and new generation artists in Taiwan might be, and analyzes how the operation and system of the art field influence on their career development. Hopefully, the research will avail the new generation artists to understand the art field and the exhibition space to accomplish the higher achievement in their career. This thesis contains four main chapters. The first chapter is the introduction of research background. The second chapter examines Bourdieu’s theory of the art field and other related theories. In the third chapter, the circumstance of contemporary art field and development of exhibition space in Taiwan are discussed. Finally, the last chapter analyzes the relation between the exhibition space and new generation artists in Taiwan in order to interpret the importance and influence of the field of contemporary art for them.
