Thus, this study was focused on entrepreneurs of small and medium enterprises in Taiwan to investigate their experiences and processes of starting a new business. Qualitative research methods, including case study and in-depth interview, were adopted. A total of 6 cases were interviewed using a comprehensive scope of questions, covering personality traits, motivation for entrepreneurship, social networks, entrepreneurial strategies, capital for entrepreneurship, and difficulties in entrepreneurship. The collected data were later analyzed to induce research conclusions. Results showed that the interviewed entrepreneurs had some personality traits in common. Based on their motivations for entrepreneurship, the sources of entrepreneurship were analyzed. It was discovered that social networks were important for entrepreneurship, and channels for financing were also explored. Niche market and customer orientation were entrepreneurial strategies adopted by these entrepreneurs. Difficulties they encountered during starting a new business included insufficient capital, difficulty in expanding business, employee management, unstable income, inconsistent management ideas among internal personnel, and cultural difference. All these had to be solved and overcome by entrepreneurs. The above findings could help those planning to start a new business better understand entrepreneurship and make use of predecessors’ experiences to increase the success of their entrepreneurship.
