(2) Application of this laser system to the scribing of thin film solar cells. By varying the transmittance of the Cr:YAG crystal, we can reduce the pulse repetition rate of a Nd:YVO4/Cr:YAG laser from 740 kHz to 70 kHz, and increase the pulse energy from 1.6 μJ to 9.3 μJ. Moreover, by varying the laser energy density, the speed of scribing, and the defocusing distance, we can optimize the performance of laser scribing of Mo films on glass substrates for solar cells. We have successfully made a Q-switched Nd:YVO4/Cr:YAG laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm, an average power of 2 W, and a repetition rate of 70 kHz.
