碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 中國文學所 === 97 === Professor Tsu-Kuang Lou (C.E. 1907.08.28-2005.08.09) is a prominent scholar and leader of modern folklore research in Taiwan and China. In July, 1930, he co-founded the Chinese Association for Folklore in mainland China. The operation of this association was resumed in December 1943. Lou served as vice president/secretary at that time and became the president of this association after the government moving to Taiwan in May, 1949. However, the history of his life was partially concealed, thereby not easily accessible to researchers. Furthermore, his splendid work in folklore research has not been systematically reviewed by any researchers. The current thesis is the first work which systematically investigated the history of Lou’s life and his research in Folklore (i.e., thesis and publications). This thesis consists of four sections: 1) A comprehensive investigation of the history of Lou’s life, 2) Lou’s methodology of folklore study, 3) the findings of Lou’s research in folklore and a brief introduction of his research after moving to Taiwan, 4) the scope of collection (i.e., number of types and number of publications in each type) of the prior folklore research which was collected and published by Lou, and six appendixes: 1) timeline of Lou’s life, 2) The category of Lou’s publication in folklore after moving to Taiwan, 3) the rule and option that govern the categorization of folklore, 4) The catalog of specialized book series for [Asian Folklore and Social life Monographs], 5) list of Lou’s publications, and 6)bibliography.
