Such advantages include reasoning ability in not-so-well known situation, independent rules for easy update, and better understanding of code. Despite these advantages, there are still many challenges that we need to meet, including insufficient information about knowledge, ill-management of a knowledge base, etc. This research combines a rule-based system and ontology to conquer disadvantages we have found. We have developed a context-aware system using ontology and a rule base. In addition, user preference is considered in the system with the use of fuzzy theory for representing the degree of preferences. Finally, this research proposes a resolution to deal with conflicts between multiple services. Based on my research methods, we evaluated the context-aware system in a smart living space to validate our hypotheses and understand the effectiveness of our system. The services of my smart living space include reminder for taking medicine and detecting the states of air-conditioners, media players, lights and phones. Li-sung Liou 劉立頌 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 85 zh-TW
