In the suspension bridge, the deck is supported by intensively, vertical suspension cables that transfer the force to the cable; on the other hand, the deck of the cable-stayed bridge is supported by the pre-stressed cables, which can reduce and re-distribute the bending moments of the deck. This is similar to the pre-stress design, in which the deck can resist more external loads. Therefore, the cable-stayed bridge is a highly static, indeterminate-bridge type with simple mechanics rules, which is usually analyzed by high-speed computers in order to get a better design. In this study, a comprehensive review is made of the cable-stayed bridge, including a study of the cable-stayed bridge, the analysis, and a design case based on the codes. Additionally, a cable-stayed bridge is used as a study case to illustrate the static and dynamic behaviors. Finally, a discussion and recommendations are made.
