Accidentally, the safe-line module in the control center was destroyed when after No.13 tower stricken by lightning in that month. Because of this event, MaoKong Gondola stopped operation for about 5 hours. In order to prevent the safe-line module from lightning surge, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) built a ground mesh under the station to reinforce the ground connection. This study simulates the distribution of lightning current which flows into the safe-line module in the control center alone the safe-line when No.13 tower which is nearby the control center is stricken by lightning, in both cases of before and after ground mesh built. The ATP-EMTP software is selected to establish the simulation model. Because the grounding model in ATP-EMTP is too simple and the parameters of tower in ATP-EMTP are not available due to the particular structure of the tower of Mucha Condola, the other software, CDEGS, is used to model the tower and the new ground mesh under the station. After the processing of CDEGS, the parameters of equivalent circuits of the tower and the ground mesh are applied to ATP-EMTP for simulation. In addition, the equivalent circuits of the safe-line and the arrester are included. The results show that the arrester in front of safe-line module loses its function until the improvement of the ground connection. After ameliorating the ground connection, the lightning current will flow into the ground mesh when No.13 tower is stricken by lightning.
