Description
Summary:碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 光電研究所 === 97 === In this study, the influences of the ferroelectric nanoparticles doped in liquid crystal with nematic and smectic A phases on the physical properties have been discussed. In order to distinguish the contribution of this thesis with similar previous studies (heavy dopant), a dilute concentration of the nanoparticle in the liquid crystal was controlled under 0.2 wt% and the effect of the nanoparticle on the smectic A phase was carried out. Here, the dielectric constants, rotational viscosity, elastic constant, birefringence, phase transition temperature, threshold voltage and response time were measured in pure and doped systems. The experimental results display that under the low-concentration doping ferroelectric nanoparticle liquid-crystal cells, the most physical parameters of the liquid crystals were not affected by the nanoparticels. The conclusion was quiet different from the report in the previous studies. Otherwise, the rotational viscosity was reduced by doping nanoparticle, which in turn decreasing the relaxation process of the liquid crystal director.
