Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to unveil the knowledge management of junior high school English teachers in Yi-lan. Another is to differentiate competence of junior high school English teachers for knowledge management due to variations in personal backgrounds, as well as the experiences of global learning and school environments. The study used survey as a major research method. The methodology focused on questionnaires. The researcher herself constructed a questionnaire called “Investigation on Junior High School English Teachers’ Competence for Knowledge Management. “ The target subjects are all of the junior high school English teachers in Yi-lan. The researcher distributed 182 copies of questionnaires, with a return of 167 valid copies, and the return rate is 91.76%. All collected data is processed with mean, percentage, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, t-test, and One-way ANOVA. According to the statistical figures, several findings are presented as followed:
1. As for the knowledge management, junior high school English teachers in Yi-lan has higher scores in “knowledge acquisition” and lower scores in “knowledge sharing”.
2. As for the “knowledge acquisition”, there is a significant difference in terms of the experiences of studying overseas, foreign academic degree or the credits of further education overseas , and the weekly frequency of Internet access.
3. As for the “knowledge storage”, there is a significant difference in terms of the working
experience.
4. As for the “knowledge sharing”, there is a significant difference in terms of the weekly frequency of Internet access and the class-size of the school.
5. As for the “knowledge innovation”, there is a significant difference in terms of the weekly frequency of Internet access and the history of the school.
According to the findings listed above, the researcher would like to present the following suggestions:
1. Suggestions for educational administration establishments:
(1)Provide information technology equipments, construct effective models of
interschool cooperation, and set up on-line knowledge-sharing channel.
(2)Reduce the teaching hours of junior high school English teachers and set up the courses of action research.
2. Suggestions for junior high school English teachers:
(1)Teachers should take part in computer programs, join academic seminars ,hold clubs such as study groups, and upgrade their competence for information accomplishments.
(2)Teachers should be engaged in curricular innovations and must develop concepts of life-long and team learning.
