碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 日本語文學系 === 97 === After the publication of the Murders of Juukakukan, “New Orthodox School” Mystery inaugurated a new wave in Japan’s mystery literary circle. Because of the popularity of “New Orthodox School” Mysteries, many authors devoted themselves into the writings of mystery. Seiryouin Ryuusui, the object of this thesis, is also considered one of them. However, he deconstructed many elements of Japanese Standard Mystery, and insisted on contents seldom noticed by mystery authors. His debut triggered much debate, and some people think his works represent the nihilistic aspects of mystery genre. Since his first famous work Cosmic and subsequent work Joker have demonstrated the characteristics of the above, I would like to discuss the heretic of Seiryouin’s works through the comparative reading between his first famous work and Japanese Standard Mystery. In so doing, the readers would have an easy access to a preliminary understanding of his works.
