An Injection Molding Machine (IMM) is a machine for mass manufacturing of plastic products by the injection molding process. Non-return valve is an important component of an injection molding machine. Non-return valve is mounted at the screw tip to prevent molten polymer flow back screw channel during injection process. In this thesis, the closing behavior of the check ring type non-return valve during injection process is studied. A simplified check ring model based on Newton’s 2nd law was built for studying the dynamic behavior of the check ring. Simulation program was established. To study the effects of the responses related to the design, molding materials, and molding parameters. Two commonly used injection molding grade thermoplastics, high density polyethylene (HDPE), polycarbonate (PC), were used in the simulation-based experiments. By changing the ring designs and molding parameters, the experimental results showed that increasing outer radius of check ring caused longer closing time of check ring.
