Description
Summary:碩士 === 美和技術學院 === 健康照護研究所 === 97 === Many researchers indicate that through “reminiscence group work”, old people regain joyfulness and become more active on personal interactions and social participation. It alleviates the sense of loneliness and effectively delayed the process of their physical decay. In the research, the author conducted a group work in a home in order to look at the impacts on elderly people with dementia. Through concepts of “reminiscence therapy”, the life experiences of elderly people with dementia in a home have been revealed. Therefore, the aims of this research on “reminiscence group work” are (1) to understand how “reminiscence group work” affects the old people with dementia individual function and social function; (2) to explore the process of “reminiscence group work” and its model; (3) to provide the practitioners after the research. This research organized a social group work of 12 old people with dementia (mild to moderate stage) selected from an elderly care facility in Pingtung. Eleven agreed to join the study and completed successfully all treatment sessions. Eight sessions of reminiscence group activities were conducted. The effectiveness of interventions was evaluated by comparing pre- and post- session Mini-Mental Status Examination(MMSE),and Feeling of Participation Scale Scores. Significant differences in values were found between the two sets of scores. Using the nonparametric Mann-Whitney test, this study found significant improvements both in MMSE and in Feeling of Participation Scale Scores. Meanwhile, an action research with qualitative interview was also conducted while the group treatments were in progress. Happiness of life in childhood had been revealed. In addition, verbal expressions and personal interactions were increased among elderly members after treatments. This helps to set a model of the reminiscence group work. Finally, this research suggests that it is worthy for us to promote the reminiscence group work in nursing homes and long-term care institutes.
