No matter natively creative Taiwanese folksongs or “Taiwanese-Japanese” mixed folksongs, all of them have become a part of our life and have accompanied us to walk through the windy and rainy time. The subject of this study is Taiwanese folksongs, ranging from the Japanese period(1932-1945)to post war (1946-1980). Among these folksongs, post war ones can be classified into natively creative Taiwanese folksongs and Taiwanese-Japanese mixed folksongs. From the linguistic viewpoints, this study explores the sentence patterns of the lyrics, understands the sentence patterns and usage of folksong language and the language styles they show. Furthermore, this study induces the characteristics of the sentence patterns of these two periods. The author hopes that this study may provide another viewpoint to study Taiwanese folksongs and become the research database of the folksong language. In addition, this study also hopes to increase the related study of Taiwanese syntax, especially the sentence patterns. In Taiwan’s research fields, there is only a little study in this aspect. Therefore, this study discusses the subject from the linguistic points of view and explores the blood and pulse of Taiwanese literature---Taiwanese folksongs.
