In recent financial turmoil, however, the economic recession will affect the performance in property-liability insurance industry in Taiwan. The study is to evaluate the performance of property-liability insurance industry in Taiwan during the period 2003 to 2007 after conducting rate deregulation in 2002. The performance model will include both underwriting profit and investment income. Secondly, a cluster analysis will be employed to classify each company in accordance with their performance, and named on the ground of their empirical result. To avoid price competition and seek for economic scale in operation, M&A would be one choice of their growth strategies. The empirical results in cluster analysis can influence the managerial consideration in M&A selection.
