The morphological characteristics, such as the cell' s shape and size, and urtrastructures of valve ornamentation, intercalary band, and architecture of periflagellar area, were obseved. In addition, the cell' s nucleus, the chloroplast, lipid globules and mucocyst were descripted. The okadaic acid contents were analysed by HPLC coupled with a fluorescence dector, Fifteen strains of Prorocentrum species were into four groups on the morphological characteristics and 18S rDNA molecular sequence.These fifteen strains of Prorocentrum species were identified as a known specie Prorocentrum lima and 5 unknown species. The first group, including PL031128002, PS030111001, PL030111003, PL021117001, PL031119001, was identified as the known species Prorocentrum lima. The cell with a length/width ratio of 1.3, was oval in valve view. The length and wide of cells were 29-49 μm, and wide 20-42 μm, respectively. The second group including 4 strains, was identified as 3 unknown species, Prorocentrum sp1 (PL021117008), Prorocentrum sp2 (PL040104001, PL040104002) and Prorocentrum sp3 (PL031128004). The cell with a length/width ratio of 1.3, was oblong in valve view. The length and wide of cells were 36-47μm long and 27-37 μm, respectively. 18S rDNA sequence were closed to Prorocentrum maculosum. The strains of PM040703009 and PS060310001 were identified as an unknown specie, Prorocentrum sp4. The cell with a length/width ratio of 1.4, was oblong in valve view. The length and wide of cells were 17-26 μm long and 11-22 μm, respectively. The periflagellar area was trapezoid. Okadaic acid was not detected in the two strains of Prorocentrum sp4. The four strains, PS060304001, PS060304002, PS060322001 and PS060308001 were clustered as the fourth group and were identified as an unknown specie, Prorocentrum sp5. The cell with a length/width ratio of 1.3, was oblong in valve view. The length and wide of cells were 17-27 μm long and 11-19 μm, respectively. The periflagellar area was wide triangle.
