Questionnaire survey was used to conduct this research, taking elementary senior students in Chung Shan District, Taipei City, as the study population. This research applied stratified cluster sampling to draw one fifth and one sixth grade class, as a total of 498 valid questionnaires was collected. The findings derived from the analysis of descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and product moment correlation indicated: 1. Elementary senior students showed higher frequency to participate in “recreational” activities, but demonstrated lower frequency to participate in “artistic” activities. 2. The leisure activities children participating in the most ranked in sequence are watching TV, surfing internet, chatting, playing ball, and learning PC skills. 3. It demonstrated significant differences on the overall leisure activity types for senior students with different background variables (gender, social and economic standing). 4. Elementary senior students demonstrated the highest satisfaction on “relaxing” dimension, but the lowest satisfaction on “social” dimension. 5. It showed no significant correlation on leisure satisfaction for senior students with different background variables. 6. The average daily leisure hours for students from Monday through Friday are 1.422, as the average hours were 6.039 during the weekend. 7. Students with higher frequency to participate in leisure activities showed higher leisure satisfaction. 8. Students with higher frequency to participate in leisure activities spent more participation time. The research findings are used as a basis to provide concrete suggestions as references for parents, schools, authority concerned, and researchers.
