The writer has a full self-identification with Huwei culture and it is an urgent issue as the writer discovers and determines to promote the humanistic value in Huwei; 3) since there is a shortage of specialized books of regional literature in the Huwei area, due to the help of the Department of Literature of Nanhua University, the writer wishes that the completion of this paper would attract attention for more further studies in the future.      The Huwei area is situated on the Choushui river alluvial fan, in the central part of Yunlin County. It has been an area of agricultural prosperity since ancient times. In 1906, Japanese established the Wujiancuo Sugar Refinery in Huwei, and now it has reached its centennial anniversary. The development of current Huwei began from the establishment of the sugar refinery. Sugar business has become the symbol of Taiwan’s modern industry, and Huwei has also become one of the representing cities of Taiwan’s emerging industry. Therefore, there are frequent cultural activities occurring in Huwei, and many works of literature creation have achieved fine acknowledgement.      This paper is organized as follows:   Chapter 1 Introduction: introduces the research motives and purposes, literature review, and the literature scope, research method and thesis structure of this research.      Chapter 2: refers to local chronicles, history books and local teaching materials related to Huwei area to discuss this area’s geographic environment, historical background and culture and educational situation, and depict the time-space and humanistic background of literature development in the Huwei area.      Chapter 3: discusses the development of traditional literature in the Huwei area, including the development background of traditional literature, important poets, poetry clubs and poems, regional features reflected in the works, and their relation with the literature circles in Yunlin County and Taiwan.      Chapter 4: presents the development of new literature in the Huwei area, including the development background of new literature, important authors and their works, regional features reflected in the works, and their relation with the literature circles in Yunlin County and Taiwan.
